Department/Faculty Summary

The Canadian VIGOUR Centre (CVC) is an Academic Research Organization (ARO) committed to enhancing cardiovascular health. Our Centre provides leadership in clinical trials of cardiovascular therapies from study design to manuscript publication, developing selected registries, and informing clinical practice through insights gained from population health data. The CVC is anchored by a dedicated group of internationally recognized thought leaders in cardiovascular medicine and clinical investigation and supported by accomplished administrative and clinical operations teams and experienced biostatisticians, data analysts, and ECG Core Laboratory personnel.

Position Summary

This position will be key in the administration of the academic research programs led by the Directors and Faculty at the Canadian VIGOUR Centre, a locally, nationally and internationally recognized leader in clinical cardiovascular research. Exceptional communication and organizational skills are required to coordinate these programs (including tracking deliverables and reports), support research chair activities, organize research ethics and standards, and coordinate the development, submission, and upkeep of grants and research proposals. Collaboration in the promotion and dissemination of research from these programs is also expected.

Duties

  • Coordinate the activities across the programs of academic research at the CVC by working with CVC Directors or Faculty, Associate Directors, subject matter leads, business office, administration, and external parties. This includes the intake of new programs/projects, the communication of program-level scope, timelines and deliverables to the research teams, and inter-institutional research agreements.
  • Collaborate in the development of processes and tools to track activities and deliverables over the life of research programs and across the research staff.
  • Ensure appropriate preparation, submission, and internal filing of applications for ethics applications for research ethics boards including their implications to data requests, and communicate these to CVC Directors, Faculty and research teams.
  • Cultivate positive working relationships with public and private sector stakeholders and other organizations in local, national and international settings.
  • Attend research meetings with CVC Directors or Faculty to advance knowledge and CVC’s interests.
  • Collaborate with the CVC Directors or Faculty, subject matter leads, and business office in the recruiting, tracking, and onboarding/offboarding of clinical and analytic trainees and visiting researchers, including their training on research processes.
  • Collaborate with CVC Communications on the promotion and dissemination of research from these academic research programs.
  • Coordinate activities related to research chairs held by CVC Directors and Faculty, including drafting presentations and annual reports, communicating the requirements of trainee programs, and liaising with the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and sponsor agencies, as needed.
  • Coordinate peer-reviewed grants and research proposals in development with the principal investigator, including outlining the requirements of the grant, organizing the contributions across the CVC (e.g., business office, analytics, clinical trial operations, administration) and submitting the grant on-time and fulfilling the requirements.
  • Prepare interim and final reports to sponsors, funding agencies and other stakeholders, engaging with the CVC business office on financial and budget reporting, as needed.
  • Collaborate in the development of standard operating procedures and practices for efficient grant/project submission and execution.
  • Collate metrics for grant/proposal submissions and prepare reports for the CVC Directors, annually or as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters in a biological science-related discipline is required.
  • At least 4 years of experience in clinical research (including clinical trials, population health, or AIML) is an asset.
  • Very strong communication skills, encompassing the full spectrum of written, verbal and oral modes in English are required.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills are required. Taking initiative and ownership of tasks to arrive at timely completion are critical to achieving success in this position.
  • An understanding of research program management would be an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience with academic research (including university (research services office, faculty/department-level, research ethics boards/institutional review boards), federal/provincial/international granting agencies, and private sector sponsors (including medical industry partners)) is an asset but not required.
  • Proficiency in a Windows environment using MS Office applications is required.
  • Experience with standard health-related databases and catalogues (i.e., Scopus, PubMed, MEDLINE, Web of Science) is an asset.


Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in a biological science-related discipline is preferred.
