The Healthy Pregnancy Hub is a new canada-wide online platform that provides evidence-based information about the safety of prescription medications during pregnancy. The site launched on November 19th and is based on research from the Canadian Mother-Child Cohort (CAMCCO) collaboration.
Although almost 70% of pregnant women take medication, there is limited information available on impact and safety for this population. The Healthy Pregnancy initiative aims to equip those who are pregnant with reliable and accessible resources to support them in making informed choices about medications alongside their healthcare providers.
In an interview with the University of Alberta’s Folio, Dr. Padma Kaul (who is the Principal Investigator from Alberta for CAMCCO) says, “if women have questions about medications, rather than just stop taking them or being hesitant, we want to provide them with a resource.” The information provided through the Healthy Pregnancy Hub is based on extensive research undertaken by a network of Canadian researchers, including Dr. Kaul and her team, who have analyzed data from 500,000 women in Alberta who gave birth to 900,000 babies between the years 2005 and 2023.
